On December 17, 2024, A.M.E. Zion Girls’ Senior High School had the distinct honor of hosting the esteemed Board of Bishops and other dignitaries from the African Methodist Episcopal Zion (A.M.E. Zion) Church. The event marked an important milestone in the school’s history, further solidifying its connection with the church’s leadership and highlighting its role as a beacon of excellence in girls’ education. This momentous occasion also showcased the collaborative effort of the entire school community, including the National Service Personnel, intern teachers, and the  Departmental groups, who each played a crucial role in ensuring the success of the event.

Arrival of the Delegation

The highly anticipated arrival of the Board of Bishops and other distinguished dignitaries occurred promptly at 9:00am marking the beginning of a momentous occasion at the school. In the days leading up to the event, the school’s administration, department, and students worked tirelessly to ensure every detail was in place, reflecting the significance of the visit. The entire campus was filled with an air of excitement and anticipation, as everyone prepared to welcome their esteemed guests.

As the delegation’s vehicles made their way toward the school, the vibrant buzz of the students, dressed in their finest attire, grew louder. The eager faces of the students were beaming with pride as they stood in rows along the path, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the dignitaries. When the guests stepped out of their vehicles, they were greeted with warm, heartfelt enthusiasm, showcasing the genuine respect and admiration held for them.

To mark the beginning of this ceremonial occasion, the school music department led the assembly in singing the school anthem. The harmonious notes echoed through the campus, setting a jubilant and respectful tone for the event. The music filled the air as the royal procession of visitors began its dignified procession to the designated seating area, where they would be honored in front of the entire school community. Additionally, National Service Persons and intern teachers were instrumental in the coordination and logistical support for the event. These young professionals and the Ghana police officers escort worked tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring the smooth running of the program, managing the flow of guests, and handling the technical aspects of the event.

The visit officially began with the Headmistress, Ms. Gladys Biney-Hayford, stepping forward to welcome the distinguished guests. 4. Special Address by the President of the Board of Bishops:

Bishop Starnes began by offering heartfelt commendation to the school’s administration, acknowledging the unwavering dedication to both academic and moral excellence. The visit concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by the Head Girl, Alpha Lady Sarah Acheampong, on behalf of the student body. As she stood before the audience, the Head Girl expressed profound gratitude for the presence and support of the bishops and dignitaries. She conveyed the collective appreciation of the students for the wisdom, encouragement, and inspiration shared during the visit. Her speech highlighted the significance of the event and the lasting impact it had on everyone in attendance.

In her remarks, she also extended gratitude to the the teachers, National Service Persons and intern teachers for their tireless efforts in organizing the event and ensuring its smooth execution.

The visit concluded with a heartfelt closing prayer led by the bishops, offering blessings for the school’s continued growth and success. In their prayer, the bishops thanked God for the inspiring visit and the opportunity to connect with the school community. They prayed for the well-being of the staff and students, asking for divine guidance, wisdom, and strength in all their endeavors. The bishops also sought blessings for the school’s future projects, that they may continue to thrive and serve the educational needs of the students.

8. Interactive Session with Students

A highly anticipated and unique component of the visit was the Interactive Session with Students, where a selected group of students had the rare opportunity to engage directly with the bishops during a thought-provoking Q&A session. This interactive dialogue allowed students to ask questions and gain invaluable insights from the bishops, who shared their vast wisdom and experiences in both leadership and faith. The bishops spoke candidly about the importance of leadership in today’s world, offering practical advice on how to become effective leaders within their communities. They also discussed the central role of faith in education, emphasizing how a strong moral foundation and spiritual growth are essential for personal development and academic success.

As the dignitaries’ vehicles made their way toward the exit, students and staff lined the driveway, eagerly waving goodbye. The students, with smiles and hearts full of gratitude, sang the school anthem in unison, their voices carrying through the air as a final gesture of appreciation and respect. The song added a sense of solemnity and joy to the farewell, marking a fitting end to the visit. The dignitaries departed the campus with the sincere farewell of the entire school community, leaving behind a lasting impression of unity, inspiration, and gratitude.

COMMISIONING OF V.D KWESI MENSAH SIX UNITS BUILDING

On November 30, 2024, the Member of Parliament for Effutu Municipality, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, commissioned a six-unit block, which was named the V. D. Kwesi Mensah Block. The block was constructed to serve as a science laboratory, ICT laboratory, library, and classrooms for the benefit of students at A.M.E. Zion Girls’ senior high school.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by a number of dignitaries, including the Municipal Chief Executive, the Municipal Director of Education, members of the Effutu Municipal Assembly, representatives from the Ministry of Education, teachers, students, and members of the community. The ceremony began with a procession into the newly constructed block, followed by the unveiling of the plaque bearing the name of V. D. Kwesi Mensah, a prominent figure and teacher in the Effutu Municipality who had contributed significantly to the development of education in the area.

In his speech at the ceremony, Hon. Afenyo-Markin highlighted the importance of investing in education and infrastructure to improve the quality of education in the municipality. He emphasised the need for students to have access to modern facilities such as science laboratories and ICT labs in order to enhance their learning experience and prepare them for the demands of the 21st century. 

Hon. Alex said he visited the A.M.E. Zion church at trauma in the year 2012 .Some needs of the school were brought  before him by Rve.Godfred N. Zomelo the founder of A.M.E. Zion Girls. He also said the school needs support in their class rooms and other facilities and he is going to help soon.He then thaked the teachers for their support and traning the student.

Hon.Alex made us know that he was motivated by a man named Teacher Kwasi Mensah who was a teacher and also a traner for spporting activities.Teacher Kwasi Mensah was also an assembly member for Effutu Senya constituency and he benefited from him.He realy liked the man due to his hardwork and contribution to other works.

After his speech,  he unveiled the new block and then cuted the ribbons. The building was named after his motivator HON .VD.KWASI MENSAH BLOCK AKA TEACHER KWASI MENSAH.

A poetry was recited in a form of vote of thanks by Miss Sandra Abgeko which made Hon Alex Markin excited and eulogised her.

The V. D. Kwesi Mensah Block consists of six rooms, with each room dedicated to a specific purpose. The ground floor, which has three rooms, houses the science laboratory, equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to facilitate practical learning and experimentation in the sciences. The second room is home to the ICT laboratory, which is equipped with computers, internet connectivity, and other resources to help students develop their digital literacy skills. The third room on the ground floor serves as a library and classrooms, providing students with a quiet and conducive environment for study and research.

The construction of the V. D. Kwesi Mensah Block was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Member of Parliament, the Effutu Municipal Assembly. The project was completed within the stipulated time frame of 8 years, thanks to the efficient coordination and management of resources by the project team.

The commissioning of the V. D. Kwesi Mensah Block is a significant milestone in the efforts to improve the quality of education in the Effutu Municipality and the A.M.E.. Zion Girls’ SHS. The facility will benefit generations of students by providing them with access to modern and well-equipped facilities that will enhance their learning experience and prepare them for a successful future. The Member of Parliament and all those involved in the project are commended for their commitment to education and their dedication to the development of the school. The management, together with the high hierarchy of the A.M.E Zion Church, also wish to express their profound gratitude to the Honourable menber and wish him with long life and prosperity
